Bluffton Self Help
March 15, 2021 – Assistance from the Jubilee Community Partnership has allowed Bluffton Self Help to bring its successful job-search, language training, GED, and work-skills training to Jasper County. A Jubilee grant enabled the hiring of bilingual customer-service aide Genesis Gonzalez. Operating out of the Hardeeville Public Library, Ms. Gonzalez provides a wide range of assistance throughout the week.
The expansion began with several weeks of community outreach and advertising to inform Jasper residents of the new availability of services in the library’s computer center. By May, Gonzalez was aiding a steady stream of individuals working to make themselves more economically successful and self-sufficient.
She and other employees of Bluffton Self Help next began offering state-accredited English language classes to non-native speakers. Almost immediately, these classes were fully subscribed by members of the burgeoning Hispanic community in Jasper County.
The Jubilee Community Partnership and Bluffton Self Help look forward to refining and expanding these popular offerings in the future.
