Expanding Language Training and Job Assistance
January 10, 2022 – One of the Jubilee Community Partnership’s early initiatives in Jasper County was establishing a new set of social services at the Hardeeville Public Library under the aegis of Bluffton Self Help.
A talented new bilingual staff organizer, Genesis Gonzalez, was hired with a Jubilee grant. She and her charitable compatriots organized a new suite of free economic and educational services in the computer lab of the library. These include job search and employment counseling, GED training, and a weekly schedule of intensive classes for adults in English as a Second Language.
These new programs attracted so much interest they have now outgrown the library space. St. Anthony’s Church in Hardeeville is providing interim space for five ESL classes (and enrolling two of their Spanish-speaking nuns in return). Major support from the Jubilee Community Partnership will allow Bluffton Self Help to expand these services to new spaces and additional populations in 2022.
